General Description
We start the walk today in an easy descent to Passo Duran, from there we walk a little on a car road (about 2 kilometers) until we reach the entrance to a wooded hiking path.
On this trail we start to climb, on the way we pass by a deserted building called Malga Moschesin, we couldn’t figure out what this place was in the past but you can fill your water from some sort of device that gathers water from a stream or a spouting source. From there we keep going up and pass 2 mountain passes (although they don’t feel like real mountain passes).
After about 5 hours of walking we pass near the Rifugio Sommariva Pramperet. We decided to stop here (we splitted day 21 to 2) because we had many extra days and we were already close to finish the crossing. The hut is very nice, with a very kind landlord and great food (also the hut is a member of the Italian Alpine Club). Phone number: +3904371956153
From this point we climb on a more significant ascent to the Forcella de Zita Sud mountain pass. This pass really feels like a real pass.
Just a few meters from the pass itself we finally spotted the famous Alpine flower, the Edelweiss. The Edelweiss is a protected, somewhat rare flower that is used as a symbol in many Alpine countries. For example: It is the sign of some Alpine Clubs and it is used as a military badge in Switzerland. It was very fitting to finally see it at the end of the crossing of the Alps.
I should note that when we descended from the pass, we saw many more Edelweisses, but they were all smaller than the one we found climbing.
After the mountain pass we start a steep descent, at the start on a rocky “naked” ground and later on a path surrounded by green grass.
Sleeping: Rifugio Pian de Fontana of the Italian Alpine Club. A nice small hut.
