General Description
Another short day, but with a special location. The Boehuette is siting under a summit called the Piz Boe. In the “official” route (there isn’t really an official route, but still) you are not supposed to climb up there, it is only mentioned as an option. The way we see is that you should not pass up the opportunity to climb there. If there’s a good weather and good visibility climb up! It’s only 40 min climb from the hut, and it’s really worth the view that also include the Marmolada (the highest mountain in the Dolomites). For those climbing up the Piz Boe this becomes the highest point of the trail.
Note: The data above represent the path without the climb to the Piz Boe.
The climb to Piz Boe is a steep climb, at one point done with iron cable (just a few meters of those) and is very short (30-40 minutes). The summit is the highest peak in the Sella Group (3152). On the top you can find another hut, yes, they put a hut up here - Rifugio Capanna Fassa.
If you climbed the Piz Boe don’t go down in the same way you came, there are 2 more descents, you need to take the one leading to the Pordoijoch, follow the signposts or ask at the hut.
So after you went up and down from the Piz Boe (or you didn’t), you descent to the Pordoijoch mountain pass. The beginning of the climb is very moderate (almost flat). Once you reach a hut on the Pordoi-Scharte the descent becomes steep, on a zigzag gravel path.
When we reached the Podoijoch we decided to skip next day (18) and go to the ending point of day 18. Because day 18 is made out of only descent and has a large amount of walking by car roads.
For those who continue the original path: From Pordoijoch you keep going in a mostly flat path (a little ascent at the start) to the Rifugio Viel dal Pan hut (about 1.5 hour walk).
Sleeping: Rifugio Viel dal Pan, a private hut. Phone number: +39 339 3865241
