General Description

The beginning of the day is a one and a half hour walk on a car road. The other hikers we were with decided to do this part in a bus, to the point where the path enters the nature. We, having some experience in road-car-walking obviously agreed.

After the short bus ride we arrived at the town Niedervintl, first thing we did was going to the supermarket (that is right next to the bus station) and the pharmacy to restock. After the restocking we began the walk. From the town we exit to the mountain and the climb starts immediately, at first in a moderate incline but very quickly it turns into a steep walk.

We spend the entire 3.5 hour climb in a wooded path, at the finish we can find the Roner hutte hut, a nice place to stop for food and drinks.

During the ascent you will see some interesting path marks (take a look at the photos below), really put a smile on your face :)

From this point there isn’t much left for today, we keep walking on a flat path for about an hour and a half. During this walk we can finally see the dramatic change in views, we reached the Dolomites, there is no mistake about that.

Sleeping: The Kreuzwiesenhuette hut. Take note that this hut is not a member of the Alpine Club, it is a private hut. That means 2 things: 1. It is more expensive. 2. Make sure you have a place reserved, there is no guarantee they’ll do anything they can for you if the place is packed.

When there’s a sunny weather here, this place is really nice place to chill, there are benches and “sea-chairs”, on the green plane and a great view to the Dolomites.

Little tip: the water in the Lager building are not drinkable, but the water inside the main building are, so you don’t have to buy water.
